And right now they have lots of legal immigration possibilities. http://www.immigration.ca/permres-mnu.asp http://www.workpermit.com/news/canada_immigration.htm http://www.rsscanadaimmigration.com/ Good luck!

in Canada, absolutely not. You could only do that as a refugee.

If I enter to Canada as a tourist, can I get a work permit hiring the service of a lawyer later? NO you need to find a job in Canada, from your home country. You must have skills that the company needs and that no local Canadian has. If the empoyer chooses to hire you, they must then apply to the government for permission to hire you. If and when they get permission, they can then get you a work permit. It often takes anywhere up to 1 year to get permission. And you need to stay in Mexico while you wait. So what unusual or rare skills do you have?? This is what the EMPLOYER must to do to hire you. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/tfw-guide.asp This is what YOU must do to get a job in Canada http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.asp

There are many Philippino Dr's in America who wish they could find someone that can understand them better. Hep B could be a problem getting into the hospitals but not necessarily. I have worked with people that caught it at work survived and came back to work. Good luck.

Hola ElGordo, If you have skills that are in demand, you can obtain a work permit and immigration papers in most parts of canada quite easily. But since you are mentioning that you can cook, you are probably looking for work in a restaurant as a short-order cook, waiter, or other job similar to that. You will get paid quite well compared to Mexico, as Canada has a minimum wage of about $8.00 per hour (or more) in almost every part of the country if you are working legally. However, you will probably also pay a lot more for housing, food, and taxes on everything than you would back in Mexico. Alberta is one of the most expensive provinces to live and work in right now as there is high demand for workers in the oil & gas industry up north. You may be able to get a job in one of the hotels or restaurants in Calgary or Edmonton, but finding a place to live is difficult and expensive. You should check out the Immigration Canada website. Two things you may be interested in is the temporary work visa for migrant workers, which will get you some work experience in Canada, or the Skilled Workers program if you have ever worked as a carpenter, brick-layer, or other type of construction work. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.asp http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/occspec.shtml
4 :
You cook? As in chef? Then BC wants you, see http://www.cse.gov.bc.ca/ProgramsAndServices/PNP/SO/so_skilledworkers.htm Or if you are just cooking in McDonalds or similar, they want you too, see http://www.cse.gov.bc.ca/ProgramsAndServices/PNP/SO/so_ELSS.htm AB wants you too, see http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrate/semiskilledworkers.html All you would need for these programs is get a job offer, get a temporary work permit, come here and use the provincial nominee program to apply for permanent residency. Getting a job offer might be the hard part here. Try monster.ca or workopolis.com or http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/Intro_en.aspx but be prepared that a lot of employers are not willing to bother with a work permit if they have a choice. You just have to look until you find somebody who will do it.

You'd be best served to contact CRA and/or the IRS with details of your planned employment to determine which plan you'd be covered under. What do you mean by entitled to work in Canada

What do you mean by entitled to work in Canada?
Actually I am applying for a job in Canada and theres one question in job application form which says "Are you legally entitled to work in Canada?" what does that mean? I havent yet applied for VISA. Is it authorization ? Or else. Please Guide. Thanking You.

Entitled to work in Canada (or any country) means that: - You are a citizen of that country - You have a valid visa for that country Many types of visa are available depending where you come from and what you want to do in Canada. Work visa, study visa, traveller visa... Look up the details at this adress: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
2 :
Currently if you are not a Canadian you are not entitled to work in Canada When and if ... you get a visa then you can say yes
3 :
People can be legally entitled to work in Canada due to: - being Canadian citizen, - have a valid Permanent Resident status, - have a valid Protected Person status (i.e. have refugee claim that approved), - have a valid open work permit (work permit which does not have limitation on the type of work nor where you can work). No, any visa by itself will not make you entitled to work in Canada.
4 :
You must be a canadian citizen, a PR of Canada, be an approved refugee or have a canadian open work permit to be allowed to work in Canada. An ordinary work permit restricts you to a specific company If you dont have any one of those then you are NOT legally entitled to work in Canada

The era where more professionals can immigrate to Canada directly has passed. The Skilled Worker Class has been reduced to expedited category for very narrow set of applicants (the one with arranged employment plus few special professions). These days, for most people to immigrate to Canada you need ties in Canada, e.g. have relatives in Canada, have job in Canada, or studying in Canada. So, if you plan to immigrate to Canada (become permanent resident in Canada) you should look into that. Except if your profession one of those few special professions for Skilled Worker. Getting to work in Canada as foreign worker is not easy, a Canada employer must sponsor you, and generally must prove that although the job give good remuneration, there is no Canadian / PR can and willing to take the job. Therefore your skill must be very special, or your skill is good and you have a very good connection. If you in supervisory or managerial level in multinational company you can find out if you can be transferred to Canada branch. So the path that open to most people: continue your study as foreign student in Canada, graduate, get post graduate work permit, find a job, work in Canada, and based on that you can apply for PR. Read thoroughly below for more information about immigration to Canada and about working or studying in Canada.
5 :
I am not quite sure why you are looking to immigrate, but as many replied to your question with circumstances. Some of them are true and some not. In general economy is still going south , Many software jobs are still available and badly needed but cost and quality advantage is seldom met. So, that job gets either endup offshore (like india /china) or sent (back) to US (US and CAD $ almost equal). Comparing to US, many companies here are still US based , except few exceptions. unemployment rate in US is close to 10 and canada also not doing well, still lot of people out of job. This does not mean you wont fond a job here. Looking at other side, software jobs will go offshore (india/china) for next atleast 8-12 qtrs. If you look at heavy weight companies they normally have some kind of visibility for 2-3 yrs. Given the knowledge base in those countries and cost advantage ,this is pretty solid fact. Looking at salary - expenses - taxes , Canada is not attractive anymore. In fact, I have many friends , who save more than me in India. Of course you are better life style here. Moreover, if you are married or planning to get married, kids education sucks here. Indian schools are far much better than public schools here and private schools are damn expensive. I bet even 6 or 7 grader will beat 10 grade canadian kid quite easy in math and science. You can debate that kids do get lot of other skills such as sports or french but end of day its still does not give edge. Health care is advertised free, but given the amount of money , an immigrant like you earn and pay taxes, you will find much better health care in US. In my opinion, I advise many of my friends, stay put in India. take advantage of booming economy, build good skills (Intellectual property) invest back in economy in home. I see lot of future for India as well as China. But, again , I advise you to take everything here with a pinch of salt.

Sounds like a conflict of interest if you are being paid.
2 :
You would have to disclose it to both companies. If they are ok with it there is no problem. There would be an issue if they were competing charities or if their major fundraisers were at the same time. Even if they're totally seperate and you don't tell your bosses, you could easily be fired when they find out.

Can I drive up to Canada to job-hunt? How common is it for Americans to work in Canada

Can I drive up to Canada to job-hunt? How common is it for Americans to work in Canada?
I just graduated from college with a business degree, and I'd love to live and work in Canada. I live a few hours drive from the border. Can I simply drive there and look for a job? How much of a hurdle will it be that I don't hold Canadian citizenship? Will the red tape be a major problem in getting hired? Thanks!

You can drive up there and look for a job, but you'll need a work visa to actually be employed there. Under the table jobs are quite risky; I don't recommend it for you'll never be able to go back to Canada after being kicked out, or at least not for ages. I knew of am American music student who did a tutoring job on the side. One day she was in class and the next she was gone. Found out she was "discovered" (we think thanks to a disgruntled neighbor) and had to leave immediately without completing her degree. Check out www.canadavisalaw.com for some answers or decent lawyers who might be able to help you get a permit.
2 :
no one will even look at you unless you have a work visa http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
3 :
You need to apply to immigrate http://www.cic.gc.ca/ Plan ahead as there is a long queue. Once you get your visa, you can apply for jobs.
4 :
Unfortunately without a specialized degree in a field that has a shortage of qualified workers you won't find any companies interested in you because they can find someone who is fully qualified to work in Canada very easily. Why not try to find a job in the USA for a company that does a lot of business with Canada, maybe you'll get to travel in Canada extensively for work!!
5 :
Yes, you can look for a job, but Canadian employers will not be able to hire you unless certain criteria are met. If they cannot find a qualified Canadian to fill the job sometimes an employer can sponsor someone from another country for the position, but it is a lengthy process and tedious. There would be quite a bit of red tape in getting hired. With that said, I know several US citizens who have found work in Canada and live here full time now. You really need to become very familiar with the Canadian immigration site which a previous poster gave you. Best of luck with your plans.

Other - Canada - 1 Answers

Besides the issues that would accompany working in another country (visa, taxes, etc.) you will likely require to re-certify in Canada. Canada's standards for lifeguarding are regulated by the Lifesaving Society (www.lifesavingsociety.com), and rumour has it that our standards are a little higher than the ARC standards. Because you are certified under the ARC, you will need to take the course, but I would see if you can just take a re-certification course (in lieu of the full 5+ day course). Swim instruction is also a little different here. I'm not 100% sure how the transition would work, but it would definitely depend on who you are certified to teach with. There are a number of organizations that are used to teach swim lessons and it depends on your place of employment (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, YMCA, etc.). If they use the Canadian Red Cross, you might be OK with an ARC instruction certification. The best thing you can do is ask your employer. They might have standards that require full certification (as most do), however there are some summer camps that only require "Lifesavers" to be on duty (anyone with the equivalent of a Bronze Cross Lifesaving Society certification). Oh - one more thing. Check to see if you can be certified with the International Lifesaving Society. It might be worth the time to get an international lifeguarding license; you might get lucky in trying to re-certify from ARC to Lifesaving Society.

YES
2 :
Certainly she can apply
3 :
If she has permanent resident status in Canada, your wife may work. Otherwise she must apply for that. As a spouse you can sponsor her:
4 :
Your wife needs to give up her status as a permanent resident of the U.S. and apply for permanent resident status in Canada. Neither government would condone the idea that a person can reside permanently in two countries at the same time. If she wants to work in Canada, you can get her landed immigrant status. If she gets landed status in Canada, she will forfeit her LPR status in the U.S. You can't play both sides of the fence at the same time.
5 :
Of course.

She may not be liable for federal tax but I would have thought she was liable for state taxes. File as two dependents (you and your wife) and see what Auntie IRS, what's the worse they can do, say you got wrong. Might be an idea to make enquiries first or do it online, that way you can blame the computer.
2 :
If you file as "married filing jointly", then the U.S. will tax all of her income as though she was living in the U.S., except for any income specifically exempted by law or tax treaty. See if it will be possible for her to claim a tax credit in Canada for tax paid to the U.S. Also, see if how much of her income is or is not exempted by law or treaty. Figure out the taxes both ways, filing jointly and filing separately. See if filing jointly results in more of her income being taxed, and whether this is worse than filing separately would be.

IF you are doing business with canadians then you must pay taxes in Canada so yes you DO need a work permit. What 3 years wait? There is NO 3 year wait for a work permit. IF you mean immigration then NO a Work permit will NOT circumvent the 3 years processing time. If you do wish to immigrate you will need to immigrate under the skilled worker category because your business does NOT fit the requirements for self employed. see links below

You will need to apply to immigrate to Canada. See this site: http://www.goingtocanada.gc.ca/CIC/display-afficher.do?id=0000000000096&lang=eng for information on how to start this process. It may be a very long process, as there is currently a huge waiting list.

Will my Mastercard Credit Card work in Canada for regualr sales?hat would you like to ask

Will my Mastercard Credit Card work in Canada for regualr sales?hat would you like to ask?
I'm going to canada in a few days and was curious if my mastercard will work if i go out shopping. The exchange rate is 1 us dollar = .86 canadian. is it a good idea to use my credit card, if i can?
Other - Canada - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Yes it should work. We always use credit cards when we travel to Canada because you get a better rate that way. Not sure if that has changed with the economy going nuts but it always has been. I would also notify your credit card company that you are going. My neice recently went to Florida & used her card to pay their resort bill & it was turned down because she didn't notify her company & they thought maybe it had been stolen. It also happened to our neighbors who just came back from Mexico; their Credit card company told them they should always notify them when they travel away from home. I guess they are using more security these days.Enjoy your trip.
2 :
Credit cards such as Mastercard, Visa, and American Express are accepted all over the world. Any store that displays the Mastercard symbol or sign either on its doors, windows, or by the checkout stand will accept one from any country. There are advantages to using a credit card in that it reduces the amount of cash you need to carry. In addition when staying at a hotel or other accommodation most require a credit card upon check-in. So yes, if the store you want to shop in takes Mastercard, you will be able to use your card there. Most major stores in Canada accept a variety of credit cards however there are a few that do not post the types of cards they do take. If you are not sure just ask an employee or at customer service if they accept Mastercard A very few (non-chain stores) may take only a Visa and some may take only a Mastercard.
3 :
Of course your MasterCard will work - they're good in most countries around the world. The exchange rate you pay may not be quite as good as the bank rate, on the other hand, it is more convenient to put it on MC and not have to convert cash back and forth. You've got the exchange rate backwards. It's $1 Canadian = 86 cents US.

I have a California teaching credential. I want to know will it work in Canada?
I have california multiple subjects elementary school teaching credential. I am planning to move to canada but i am not sure if this credential will work there or not. Do i have to take few extra classes over there? Please Advice

There are 49 other states that will not accept a California certificate without additional classes. Yet you expect a foreign country to do so. I assume you have been in public schools. If you want a leg up in Canada, start on Spanish classes.
2 :
I would think the class you should be start would be French not spanish in Canada. I think it depends on the class and what you want to teach. She's been a bit dramatic with 49 states since you can get other states who would take your B.A. Have you looked at Canada Creditinals Do you know where you want to work? Contact a school in canada and ask them.

How can I legally work in Canada

How can I legally work in Canada?
My husband is a conditional permanent resident here in the USA. My question is, what has to happen if we decide to move to Canada if one or both of us has a better job opportunity there? What has to happen if we want to be able to work and live in either country? Thanks!

I understand you would ask this question in this kind of forum, because immigration lawyers prefer to take up the whole file for $(2000 to 4000, generally) and they are not too keen on simply giving advice as you go through procedures. However, if you or your husband had a firm offer for a job in Canada, I suspect it would not be as hard a n administrative chore as in the US. Very often the companies which hire abroad do pay a lawyer to speed up the required paperwork as well. I am no specialist, but I know this much: Legally, one cannot have permanent residency in both countries, although I have heard of people who have managed that. I suppose you want to live together, so I would not get into each one of you holding permanent residence visas one in the US one in Canada. The Canadian immigration website is http://www.cic.gc.ca and possibly you have already looked it up. This said, I think that there are Canadian immigration lawyers who still would give you a consultation. It might cost $200 or more, but considering how important this info is for you, I'd spend it. I cannot advertise anyone in particular, but they are out there. Having lived in the US and being now a Canadian immigrant, I could point out the differences. Salaries are cheaper here, but then life is way cheaper too. Taxes are higher, depending in which Canadian you would live. In any case, if you'd like to get more from my viewpoint, you are welcome to email me.
2 :
if you move to Canada, he will LOSE his GREEN CARD Status in USA what has to happen - you both must stay in USA for the next 6 to 7 years while he gets his permanent green card ( 2 year conditional and 3 years permanent) and then becomes eligible for citizenship (1 year to process). Once he has his US citizenship and a US passport, THEN you can apply to immigrate to Canada.

How do you get a visa to study or work in Canada?
Hey everyone. I want to know how you get a visa to work or to study in Canada. Are there age limits for student visa ?? Can I apply for a work visa if I already own my own business in a different country ??

You need to go to cic.gc.ca for information on applying for any kind of visa.
2 :
No age limit. If you are applying for a work permit it's for a specific job that already exists in Canada. Doesn't matter if you own a business in another country. They aren't for starting a new business in Canada.

Which is best to study and work- Canada or United States

Which is best to study and work- Canada or United States ?
I am from India and I want to go abroad for study in Undergraduate Programs like associates degrees etc. I want to choose a country - USA or CANADA. I found that community colleges in USA are much cheaper and affordable than Canada. Though after associate degree when we transfer to any University education then it is costlier in USA [but in the beggining at community colleges its cheaper.] The cheaper community colleges makes me more attracted towards USA. I want a country where study and work can both be done. My parents have sufficient funds for my study fees but I want to work because I want to be self dependent. Which country is suitable to my requirements. I want a place which is secure as well as good to live.

Even though our healthcare isn't perfect, its a million times better than Canada's socialized plan. Tons of canadians come to america to buy our health insurance and go to our doctors, because in socialized healthcare you have to wait forever to get an appt. even if it is urgent. Why bring that up? Because it is one factor to consider when picking a job.
3 :
the us will be better.
4 :
Firstly, Nina is a liar, and doesn't know anything about Canadian healthcare. Secondly, Canadian universities work differently than American ones. Tuition for you is going to more expensive in both Canada and the US, because you are an international student. The money the government uses to help cover higher education costs are not covered for you, as you are not a citizen. Obviously, I'm biased, but Canada would be the better choice, because you can go directly to university and you will fit in. Tons of foreign students come here to study. It is safe. 2007 was the safest year for all types of crime in the last 25 years. The US is currently in an economic slowdown/recession. Jobs, though available, are more scarce. Canadians, especially in Alberta, are desperate for workers. Email me if you have further questions. =]
5 :
Believe me, I am having the same dilema right now. Apparently Canada is generally cheaper and provides a much more welcoming atmosphere for intenational students. Here is an article I got from a website (http://www.graduateshotline.com/enggcan.html): Canada offers a high quality, affordable education that is recognized world-wide. Moreover, Canada is a safe, secure, healthy, multicultural and welcoming environment for international students. All Universities and Colleges offer excellent academic programs and teaching. As well, services and advisors are available to help students adapt to living in Canada and ensure that the time spent in Canada is enjoyable. In 1998, nearly 30,000 international students made Canadian universities their choice for preparing for a successful career Profiles/Admission Most Of Universities if Canada are World Class Institutions and are cheaper than American Universities. The Deadlines Of Most Engineering Programs are in December to February they have earlier deadline than US universities. Getting in Canadian universities is relatively easy but getting in top 3-4 University is tough. TOEFL and Engineering GPA is most important for Admission. GRE is also Important but it seems TOEFL is most Important. Most Top Universities desire TOEFL>250 The International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 7.5 The Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 90 with 80 minimum per section including a minimum score Of 3 in the speaking test component. There are similar requirements at Canada's French-language universities. International students are advised to contact the Canadian university where they wish to study about one year in advance. Cost Of Study Canadian University are cheapest among UK, USA, Australia. The Commonwealth scholarship is one source of funding for Canadian Universities at the post-graduate level, but is restricted to a very limited number of students of exceedingly high intellectual promise who live in Commonwealth countries.

If you go to the US on a student visa you will have very limited options for working, only way to go outside of this is getting a work permit while you are there. I'm not sure how this works in Canada though.

Obviously it's possible to look for work in Canada while living in the US. But is it required to live in Canada or have another kind of visa before getting a work visa in Canada? Or can you just apply for jobs there and when you get an employment offer apply for the work visa?

No-one will hire you from the US unless you have very special skills, such as skull base surgeon. You can apply for a work permit if you can find an employer who can make a case to hire you and is prepared to go to the trouble and expense to do so. Or, you can apply to immigrate and job hunt when you arrive. If you enter as a tourist, the only entry available to you right now, you may not work or seek work.

What is involved in finding work in Canada and moving there

What is involved in finding work in Canada and moving there?
I am a U.S. citizen that would like to move to Canada, at least for a few years. I recently received bachelor's degrees in economics and management. I don't have any family or connections in Canada. How would I go about finding work? Will companies hire someone who is not a citizen or a permanent resident? Can I apply to work at Canadian companies now, get hired, and then get a work visa? Or would I have to go through a long process of becoming a permanent resident before I could even start working? I would particularly like to hear from people who have went through the process.

The CD should work, as long as it was burned properly, and "closed" Some Vista users make a mistake of using Vista's burning to make a CD, and it fails to close the CD properly (it assumes you want to add more later). In those cases, I open it in Nero Burning Rom, and import the track on the CD, then "Finalize" (close) it - everything is readable then.
