Yes it should work. We always use credit cards when we travel to Canada because you get a better rate that way. Not sure if that has changed with the economy going nuts but it always has been. I would also notify your credit card company that you are going. My neice recently went to Florida & used her card to pay their resort bill & it was turned down because she didn't notify her company & they thought maybe it had been stolen. It also happened to our neighbors who just came back from Mexico; their Credit card company told them they should always notify them when they travel away from home. I guess they are using more security these days.Enjoy your trip.

Credit cards such as Mastercard, Visa, and American Express are accepted all over the world. Any store that displays the Mastercard symbol or sign either on its doors, windows, or by the checkout stand will accept one from any country. There are advantages to using a credit card in that it reduces the amount of cash you need to carry. In addition when staying at a hotel or other accommodation most require a credit card upon check-in. So yes, if the store you want to shop in takes Mastercard, you will be able to use your card there. Most major stores in Canada accept a variety of credit cards however there are a few that do not post the types of cards they do take. If you are not sure just ask an employee or at customer service if they accept Mastercard A very few (non-chain stores) may take only a Visa and some may take only a Mastercard.

Of course your MasterCard will work - they're good in most countries around the world. The exchange rate you pay may not be quite as good as the bank rate, on the other hand, it is more convenient to put it on MC and not have to convert cash back and forth. You've got the exchange rate backwards. It's $1 Canadian = 86 cents US.
