Hola ElGordo, If you have skills that are in demand, you can obtain a work permit and immigration papers in most parts of canada quite easily. But since you are mentioning that you can cook, you are probably looking for work in a restaurant as a short-order cook, waiter, or other job similar to that. You will get paid quite well compared to Mexico, as Canada has a minimum wage of about $8.00 per hour (or more) in almost every part of the country if you are working legally. However, you will probably also pay a lot more for housing, food, and taxes on everything than you would back in Mexico. Alberta is one of the most expensive provinces to live and work in right now as there is high demand for workers in the oil & gas industry up north. You may be able to get a job in one of the hotels or restaurants in Calgary or Edmonton, but finding a place to live is difficult and expensive. You should check out the Immigration Canada website. Two things you may be interested in is the temporary work visa for migrant workers, which will get you some work experience in Canada, or the Skilled Workers program if you have ever worked as a carpenter, brick-layer, or other type of construction work. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.asp http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/occspec.shtml

You cook? As in chef? Then BC wants you, see http://www.cse.gov.bc.ca/ProgramsAndServices/PNP/SO/so_skilledworkers.htm Or if you are just cooking in McDonalds or similar, they want you too, see http://www.cse.gov.bc.ca/ProgramsAndServices/PNP/SO/so_ELSS.htm AB wants you too, see http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrate/semiskilledworkers.html All you would need for these programs is get a job offer, get a temporary work permit, come here and use the provincial nominee program to apply for permanent residency. Getting a job offer might be the hard part here. Try monster.ca or workopolis.com or http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/Intro_en.aspx but be prepared that a lot of employers are not willing to bother with a work permit if they have a choice. You just have to look until you find somebody who will do it.
