us citizen currently living in canada with boyfriend wants to work in Canada

us citizen currently living in canada with boyfriend wants to work in Canada?
I don't know what to do! I am visiting Canada with just my passport and U.S. ID. I want to start working in Canada because I would like to help pay for me and boyfriends rent and have money. What do I do? I don't know what I need to obtain in order to work in Canada.

Sorry but you can't just "start working" in Canada 'cause you want to. You require a work permit and a job offer, neither of which is available to foreigners here on visitor's visas. Seriously, did you think you could just waltz into Canada and "get a job"? In case you didn't know, we have about 1.5 million citizens who are also looking for work but they are legally permitted to work whereas you aren't. We have laws and rules which any and all prospective immigrants must follow. Look through http://www.cic.gc.ca and read through the entire site carefully. In the meantime, you are simply not permitted to work while you are visiting Canada. Go home and apply from there.

You would have to apply for residency. You may not be able to do it from Canada if you're only visiting. Its unlikely that you would be permitted to legally work any time soon.

I would think you would have to apply for a residency card or a work visa---does not your live-in partner know...

Look up NAFTA visa. If you have a college degree in one of those fields you can look for work. Otherwise you have to apply for immigration which can take several years. Of he can apply for a spousal visa but you have to marry him If you want to move to Canada, here is a link to the Canadian government web site with the information. http://www.goingtocanada.gc.ca/CIC/display-afficher.do?id=0000000000102&lang=eng One of the most popular ways of entering Canada is as a skilled worker. Follow this link to see if you are eligible http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/tool/index.asp You can take this test to see if you might qualify http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assess/index.asp An easier to way to work in Canada, at least on a temporary basis may be under NAFTA. However, you must be a member of certain specialty occupations. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/special-business.asp#nafta These occupations are listed here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TN_Visa
