I live in Canada and am planning on purchasing a Kindle for my boyfriend. He is currently in Afghanistan, and is American. Will he be able to use it? I'm assuming as long as he is using an American credit card it shouldn't really matter. A kindle is a kindle right? Thanks a lot.

Yea why wouldn't it work? your still going to read the same books, and the wifi is wifi to purchase books. you answered your own question.
